The brief

A listed building in Piraeus, turned into hospitality apartments through the world of Alice.

The renovation of a historic building in Piraeus with a preserved façade, transformed into contemporary hospitality apartments while respecting the architectural identity and history of the original structure.

The design preserves and highlights authentic elements such as handcrafted period cement tiles, marble flooring, generous ceiling heights, original decorative plasterwork and existing timber floors. New interventions remain carefully controlled, allowing the former full-floor residences to be divided into smaller independent hospitality apartments without losing the character of the building.

The interior concept, Alice in Architecture, is inspired by the imaginative world of Alice in Wonderland. Checkerboard geometry, graphic patterns, shifts in scale and controlled colour contrasts reinterpret the idea of fantasy through a refined architectural language. Each level is defined by its own dominant colour identity, with red, green and blue guiding the character of the apartments.

Period cement tiles run through the kitchens and bedrooms, terracotta and blue cabinetry marks the colour of each floor, and the bathrooms pair veined marble with deep red ribbed tiles.

The result creates a dialogue between heritage and contemporary hospitality, preserving the memory of the building while introducing a distinctive new identity.
